Privacy policy

Last updated October 20, 2026

The short version: Quizy runs on your computer, and your files, flashcards and study history are stored there. When Quizy's AI writes cards or answers a question, the text it's working on is sent to Groq, the AI service Quizy uses. Quizy doesn't run servers that keep your files, and this website doesn't use cookies, ads or trackers.

This website

quizy.study is a single page with no accounts, forms, cookies, analytics or ads. A few services are still involved when you visit:

  • Hosting. The site is hosted by Spaceship. Like most web hosts, its servers keep standard logs of requests, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, for security and to keep the site running.
  • Fonts. The page loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser sends Google its IP address and browser details. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Release information. The page asks GitHub's public API for the newest version and the download total. The installers themselves are downloaded from GitHub. See GitHub's privacy statement.
  • YouTube. If you click a YouTube link, you leave this site, and YouTube's own policies apply.
  • Browser storage. When you close the cookie notice, the page saves that choice in your browser's local storage so it doesn't show again. It stays on your device and isn't sent anywhere.

The Quizy app

Quizy is a desktop app for Windows. Everything you put into it is stored in Quizy's data folder on your computer (%APPDATA%\Quizy):

  • the account you create in the app (it's local to your computer, and your password is stored only as a secure hash)
  • the files you import, such as PDFs, Word and PowerPoint files, notes and photos
  • your decks, flashcards, study history and settings

Quizy doesn't include analytics, advertising or crash reporting, and we have no way to see or recover what's in your app.

Quizy AI

Quizy writes flashcards, explanations, summaries and chat answers, and checks typed or spoken answers, with Quizy AI. Quizy AI runs on Groq, a cloud AI service. To do each job, Quizy sends Groq only what that job needs:

  • when making cards: the section of your document being turned into cards, and any instructions you typed
  • when explaining a card, chatting or checking an answer: the card, your question or answer, and the passages of your document it relates to
  • when you answer by voice: the recording of your answer

Quizy doesn't send your account details, your whole library or your study history. Groq handles these requests under Groq's privacy policy. Quizy doesn't keep copies of them anywhere but your computer. If you'd rather not use Groq, you can use your own AI key instead (see below), including a model that runs on your own computer with Ollama.

If you sign in with Google

Signing in with Google is optional. If you use it, Google asks you to approve sharing your name, email address and Google account ID with Quizy. Quizy stores them only on your computer, to create your local account and to recognise you the next time. Quizy doesn't get access to your Gmail, Drive or any other Google data, and it doesn't send your decks to Google. Google knows that you signed in to Quizy, under Google's privacy policy. You can remove Quizy's access at any time from your Google account.

If you use your own AI key

In Settings you can use your own API key for another AI service instead of Quizy AI. If you do, the same kind of text described above is sent to that provider instead, under the provider's terms and privacy policy. If you point Quizy at a model running on your own computer (for example with Ollama), nothing leaves your computer.

Things the app downloads

Some parts of Quizy are downloaded when you first need them. These requests reveal your IP address to the service that hosts the file, but they don't include any of your own content:

  • extra OCR languages, from GitHub
  • update checks and updates, from GitHub

Studying on your phone

If you turn on phone access, your phone connects directly to Quizy on your computer over your own Wi-Fi network after you scan the pairing QR code. Your decks don't pass through any outside server. You can turn phone access off, or disconnect all phones, in Settings at any time.

Your control over your data

Because your data is stored only on your computer, you control it directly. You can export decks to Anki, and you can delete them in the app. To remove everything, uninstall Quizy and delete the %APPDATA%\Quizy folder. Uninstalling keeps that folder in case you reinstall.

Children

Quizy is made for students. It doesn't send us any personal information from anyone, of any age. A parent or guardian who has questions can contact us using the details below.

Changes and contact
